What is The Evergreen Hammers Youth Football Association?
The Evergreen Hammers Youth Football Association was established to allow youth football players to compete at a higher level than other leagues in the area. The league is what we call a “coaches league”, meaning your child’s coaches will remain with the team through the entire youth football experience until high school. Coaches will be encouraged to assemble their own teams rather than teams given to them by a league or draft. This association was founded to teach proper techniques and fundamentals to prepare student athletes for the next level. THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS ON POSITION BASED OFF WEIGHT!!!!!
What league will we be competing in?
The Hammers are members of the Virginia American Youth Football Alliance(VAYFA). VAYFA is an alliance of 14 football programs that compete against each other. The teams hail from all over Northern Virginia including teams hail from as far North as West Virginia and as far South as Richmond. We are also eligible to play other AYF teams in from all around the Beltway. There are nearly 75 AYF Football playing associations in our area
What Is American Youth Football?
American Youth Football (AYF) is an international association similar to Pop Warner. AYF has leagues in every state in the country as well as multiple international teams. Last season AYF had over 860,000 youth football players and over 19,700 teams. AYF sponsors a national championship in each division. For example if you win your conference playoffs, the team will proceed to a State Championship (competing with VA Beach, Hampton Roads, and Richmond). The winner of the state proceeds to the Atlantic Region (there are 9 regions in the country) to compete against the MD, NC, and SC winners. From there a National Championship Tournament is held in Kissimmee, Florida.
How much does it cost to participate?
Registration for the 2017 season is $450.00. Your registration will include everything your child needs this season to play football, save a mouthpiece and cleats.

Registration Fee Refunds, less a $50 Administrative Fee, are offered if the registrant decides to withdraw from the program before the first day of practice, and written notification is provided. If a player has been issued game equipment the registration will not start processing until the equipment has been returned to The Hammers.
Refunds after July 1 of the current year will be charged an additional $50 for uniform purchase fee.
No Refund will be given after the first day of practice if the player has participated in any practices or games.
Optional equipment packages and other items purchased are non-refundable.
Notification must be provided to the Hammers Commissioner by e-mail of the decision to withdraw a player from the program.
All refunds will be processed and returned when the official registration is closed.
Is the cost of National Playoffs included in my registration?
Unfortunately the cost of travel for playoffs will be the responsibility of each family. Teams will conduct fundraisers to offset travel expenses. Funds raised will go towards players, coaches and chaperones’ rooms.
When does practice start and times?
Practice starts last week of July and continues to first week of school. Pre Season practice will be at Evergreen Sportsplex (for all teams) Monday - Friday, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM, with possible scrimmages and Jamborees on Saturdays up until the season (each Coaching Staff will determine their own scrimmage/jamboree schedule). Once school starts, practices will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with our younger teams on the GW Campus in Ashburn and our older teams at Leesburg Christian School.
How many games do we play?
The regular season will last 9 weeks, with the first regular season game on Labor Day weekend. Each team is guaranteed 8 games against AYF opponents, additionally there will be one bye week.
What are the ages and weight break down?

It is important to read this paragraph if your child is playing on a weighted team. Players will weigh in wearing equipment on our weight based teams. No weigh-in required on unlimited teams. Equipment is defined as: cleats, socks, game pants (with pads), and game jersey. Sweating down prior to weigh is strictly prohibited. If a player does not make weight one week they can weigh in the next. A player’s age is determined by their age on July 31st of the current year for the weight based teams.
